Privacy Policy
Effective October 6, 2026
In short: ConnectWear moves your phone's information to your watch and back. There's no ConnectWear server, no account, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. We never see your data. A few features need an outside service (Apple's push notifications, the AI provider you choose, your phone's place search), and those are listed below.
ConnectWear is made up of an Apple Watch app (with a small iPhone app that only installs it) and a companion app for Android phones. This policy covers both, and explains what information they handle, where it goes, and why.
What stays on your devices
The watch and phone talk to each other directly over Bluetooth, and for Media on watch, over your local Wi-Fi or your phone's hotspot. The following information travels only between your own watch and phone and is stored only on them:
- Notifications: the app name, icon, title, text and buttons of your phone's notifications, so you can read and act on them on the watch.
- Calls and texts: the caller's number and contact name, your recent calls, favorites and text conversations, and the replies or new texts you send from the watch.
- Contacts: names, numbers and addresses, so you can call, text or get directions to someone from the watch.
- Photos, videos, music and documents: the ones you browse from the watch, and the folder you choose to sync for Media on watch.
- Now Playing: the song or show playing on your phone and its cover art.
- Directions: turn-by-turn instructions from your navigation app, and the saved places and recent destinations you keep in ConnectWear.
- Alarms: the ringing alarm and the alarms you set from the watch.
- Health data: steps, heart rate, workouts and sleep recorded by your watch (see Health data below).
- Settings and logs: your quick replies, muted apps, Home layout and a diagnostic log, kept on each device. Logs are never sent anywhere unless you choose to share them with us for support.
What leaves your devices
Some features can't work without an outside service. Each one gets only what it needs, sent directly from your phone or watch. None of it passes through a ConnectWear server.
| Service | What's sent | When |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Push Notification service | The alert to show on your watch: the notification's app name, title and text, a caller's name or number, or a turn instruction, plus your watch app's push address. | When the watch app is asleep and doesn't confirm a message over Bluetooth within 2 seconds, so the alert still reaches your wrist. |
| Anthropic (Claude) or Google (Gemini) | The questions you ask in Ask AI and the conversation so far, with your own API key. | Only when you use Ask AI, and only to the provider you choose. Their privacy policies apply to what they receive. |
| Your phone's place search (Android Geocoder) | The place name you say, and your city, taken from your phone's last known location, to find nearby results. | When you search for a destination in Maps on the watch. |
| Your navigation app | The destination you pick. | When you start a route from the watch, ConnectWear opens your phone's navigation app (such as Google Maps) to that destination. That app's privacy policy applies. |
| Apple dictation | What you dictate on the watch. | When you dictate a reply, a text, a place or a question. Handled by watchOS under Apple's privacy policy. |
When you reply to a message or send a text from the watch, your phone sends it the same way it would if you had typed it on the phone.
Health data
With your permission, the watch app reads the steps, heart rate, workouts and sleep that your watch records from Apple Health (HealthKit), and sends them over Bluetooth to your phone, which saves them to Health Connect. Data your iPhone recorded is left out, so nothing is counted twice.
During a route started from the watch, ConnectWear runs a workout session to keep the app on screen. That session is never saved to Apple Health.
Health data is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, never shared with anyone else, and never stored anywhere but your watch, your phone and Health Connect. Once it's in Health Connect, the apps you allow there can read it.
Permissions, and why they're needed
You can turn each of these on or off in your phone's or watch's settings. A feature whose permission is off simply won't work; everything else keeps working.
Android phone
- Notification access: to show your notifications on the watch and run their buttons (reply, mark as read, dismiss).
- Accessibility service ("ConnectWear watch controls"): only when you ask from the watch, to press the camera's shutter, to open a route past the lock screen, and to press buttons on the alarm and call screens (such as Snooze or Speaker). It looks for the one button it needs and doesn't store or send what's on your screen.
- Phone and call log: to ring calls on the watch, answer or decline them, place calls, and show your recent calls.
- SMS: to show your text conversations and send the texts you write on the watch.
- Contacts: to show names instead of numbers, and to call, text or get directions to your contacts.
- Location (all the time): to add your city to place searches from the watch, which can happen while the phone app is in the background.
- Photos, videos, audio and files: to browse them from the watch and to sync the folder you choose for Media on watch.
- Health Connect: to save your watch's steps, heart rate, workouts, calories, distance and sleep.
- Bluetooth and nearby devices: to connect to your watch.
- Do Not Disturb access and audio settings: to change your phone's sound mode and Do Not Disturb from the watch.
- Alarms and notifications: to set alarms from the watch, and to show the phone app's own status notification.
Apple Watch
- Bluetooth: to connect to your phone.
- Notifications: to alert you when the app is asleep.
- Health: to read the data described above, and to run the unsaved workout session during a route.
- Local network: to download Media on watch files from your phone over Wi-Fi.
API keys
If you use Ask AI, your Anthropic or Google API key is stored in the phone app's private storage and sent only to that provider. You can remove it at any time in the phone app.
What we don't do
- We don't run servers that receive your data, and we don't have accounts.
- We don't use analytics, crash reporting services, advertising or tracking of any kind.
- We don't sell or share your information.
Deleting your data
Everything ConnectWear stores is on your devices. Deleting the watch app removes its data from the watch; uninstalling the phone app removes its data from the phone. Health records it saved stay in Health Connect until you delete them there.
Children
ConnectWear isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone, children included.
Changes to this policy
If ConnectWear changes how it handles your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top before that version of the app is released.
